The report describes the international cooperation in the period 2016-2020, mainly performed by the International Nuclear Safety and Security section.

The DSA established a bilateral cooperation program with the Ukrainian regulatory body, the State Nuclear Regulatory Inspectorate of Ukraine (SNRIU), in 2014. The cooperation has been financed by the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs under the Norwegian Action Plan for Nuclear Safety. This report describes the achievements resulting from the implementation of projects set up under that cooperation agreement in period 2014-2020.

This report describes work carried out between 2015 and 2019 within the regulatory cooperation program of the DSA and the Federal Medical Biological Agency of Russia, with support of the Burnasyan Federal Medical Biophysical Center. The work is set into the context of the long-term regulatory cooperation program that began in 2001.

It is possible to establish a direct link between the use of medical radioisotopes at the University Hospital of North Norway and observations of activity concentrations of the same radioisotopes in sewage and in the case of iodine-131 (I-131) in the brown seaweed Fucus vesiculosus in the marine environment around Tromsø. This study estimates biological half lifes of I-131 in F. vesiculosus, excretion rates of medical radioisotopes from patients as well as biota and human dose exposures

The report has considered potential accidents related to the Russian nuclear submarines K-27 and K-159. The radiological assessment is based on a wide set of radionuclides.
