-
Ionising radiation is very penetrating and is also easy to detect. The radiation therefore has many industrial applications, such as process control, well logging, material testing and tracer analysis.
-
Industrial and research use of radiation is very varied, and include sealed radioactive sources, open radioactive sources, and a variety of X-ray machines from small handheld devices to large closed cabinets.
-
Industrial radiography is an important method of quality assurance of materials, machine parts and structures.
-
In research, open radioactive sources are used, among other things, as tracers to analyse chemical and physiological processes.
Registration of radiation sources
Many types of radiation sources are subject to registration duty. Undertakings that acquire or use radiation sources subject to registration must register their activities and the radiation sources in the DSA’s radiation source registration system.
