The Norwegian Government’s Action Plan for Nuclear Safety and Security (the nuclear action plan) aims to reduce the risk of serious accidents and radioactive contamination, and to prevent radioactive and fissile material from escaping.

The accidents at the Chernobyl and Fukushima nuclear power plants showed that incidents can cause acute damage to health in the surrounding areas and long-lasting consequences far away from the facilities.

Norwegian efforts to promote nuclear safety and security in northwest Russia, Ukraine and some other Eurasia countries are part of the nuclear action plan and have been helping to reduce the risk of nuclear accidents and radioactive contamination in our region for many years.
About the nuclear action plan
Norway’s cooperation on nuclear safety and security with Russia, Ukraine and individual countries in Eurasia is governed by the Government’s Action Plan for Nuclear Safety and Security. The action plan has full political backing and provides for continuity in nuclear security cooperation.
