Threat level

DSA has been appointed by the Norwegian government to ensure preparedness for six different scenarios.

  • Large airborne release of radioactivity over Norway from foreign facilities 

  • Large airborne release of radioactivity over Norway from domestic facilities 

  • Local release from mobile source (including mobile reactors on vessels) 

  • Local incident that develops over time (e.g. Goiânia accident, Litvinenko poisoning) 

  • Release of radioactivity to the marine environment 

  • Incident abroad with consequences for Norwegian citizens or Norwegian interests (e.g. Fukushima accident) 

An incident is often divided into an early and a late phase.
