In 1994 Norway and Ukraine entered into an agreement on early notification. The purpose of the protocol which were signed today are to operationalize that agreement. Simultaneously,  the procedures will ensure that Ukraine and Norway have a common understanding of when we shall inform each other in the event of a nuclear incident. The responsible authorities are DSA and the Ukrainian regulator SNRIU (State Nuclear Regulatory Inspectorate of Ukraine).

Norway and Ukraine have broad cooperation regarding nuclear safety and security within the governments Nuclear Action Plan. This cooperation was given further impetus after Erna Solbergs assurance to assist Ukraine during the Nuclear Security Summit in 2014. The close contact between Norwegian and Ukrainian nuclear authorities is important in following up these activities.
